For many years, I leaned on stores like Amazon and Vitacost to buy dairy-free recipe staples. Some ingredients are harder to find locally, and some are just too darn expensive in store. But in the past couple of years, a new retailer began popping up in my searches. Their prices were remarkably competitive, so I decided to give them a try. Now, Nuts.com is one of my go-to retailers for dairy-free pantry stocking.
Nuts.com Delivers on Price, Quality, and Dairy-Free Selection
Tony and I shop around, a lot. When you work for yourself, every penny counts, and one of our biggest expenses is food. We test a lot of recipes. Not just my own, but also ones from contributors to Go Dairy Free. That said, it takes me a little while to get the gumption to try a new retailer out. I hummed and hawed with items in my shopping cart for several days before I finally made a purchase from Nuts.com. It turns out, my worry was for nothing. They delivered in every way. In a nutshell, w e loved the following:
- Great Packaging
- Quality Products
- Wide Selection & Various Sizes
- Efficient Delivery
- Free Shipping
- Competitive Pricing
Need more details? I’ve elaborated on the pros and cons, in my opinion, for Nuts.com below.
Great Packaging that’s Fun and Useful
They say looks don’t matter, but their packaging is so darn cute! And it’s highly functional. The solid bright colors with “windows” on the front make each item relatively easy to identify in my pantry (aka random cupboards and shelves). The bags themselves are stand-up, resealable pouches, so I don’t need to repackage or store items in something else.
Product Quality at Nuts.com is Second to None
I judged them first by the quality of their cashews, and wasn’t disappointed. They were plump, fresh, and lightly sweet. I’ve since been pleased with every other item, from dairy-free dark chocolate chips and cocoa butter to flours and bran.
Variety & Sizing covers almost Every Need
Nuts.com is a bulk seller, so you can buy regular store-size amounts, or buy larger bulk quantities and save more. They also offer a diverse array of products, from gluten-free to superfoods to old-school staples. On Nuts.com, you can buy all types of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, beans, grains, flours, coffee, tea, candies, snacks, and … I could go on all day.
Seamless Delivery from Nuts.com Production to Your Door
Everything arrived quickly and in perfect condition. We’re currently in a remote location, and sometimes have to wait longer than most for things to arrive. But Nuts.com was on our doorstep in a timely fashion.
Nuts.com offers FREE Shipping
Do you hate paying for shipping? I get so frustrated when I put everything in my cart, head to checkout, and discover the shipping is more than what I’m buying! Don’t worry. The good service at Nuts.com includes FREE shipping on orders over $59 for customers in the U.S. Since it’s a pantry stocking and snack site, I haven’t found it hard to meet that minimum. Nuts.com also offers low cost shipping to Canada.
Prices are Highly Competitive
We are value shoppers, so this attribute was key! I priced around on every staple we buy, and Nuts.com was either less, or very close to other online retailers for the same items. And I feel good knowing I can trust their quality, which isn’t always the case with other sites!
The Only Cons for Nuts.com
We couldn’t find packaged on or expiration dates anywhere on the packaging. While it’s obvious the product was packaged fresh, and they offer storage tips, I’m not the best at keeping track of product shelf life. Also, it would be great if the product name was more easily visible. Perhaps a larger sticker at the top with the product name. They identify the product on the back with the nutrition facts label.
Is Nuts.com Allergen Safe?
Like most productions facilities (even with many allergy-friendly brands!) top allergens are present, and some might be processed and/or packaged on shared lines. They are not a purely dairy-free company, and do sell a small selection of products that contain milk. Nuts.com does have allergen protocols in place to help prevent cross contamination with allergens not in specific products. But contact them directly to discuss their processes if potential cross contamination is a concern for you.
About Nuts.com
Nuts.com began as the Newark Nut Company back in 1929. They quickly gained popularity for premium bulk nuts and dried fruit. Seventy years later, they launched NutsOnline.com, and began shipping their goods throughout North America. In 2012, they became Nuts.com. But to this day, they are still a family-run company, now in their third generation.
